The Why and What of This Coaching
Hi! I’m so glad you’re here.
I’ve wanted to work with women in this capacity for as long as I can remember, way before coaching was an Instagram sensation. Way before Instagram existed! It’s been at the center of countless vision boards and conversations with coaches, mentors, and friends.
And, like so many really brilliant women with everything to offer and more, I was terrified of putting myself out there, being rejected, and finding out that everything Fear told me to believe about myself was true. Things like:
You? A coach? Ha! Who do you think you are? Tony Robbins?
Wow, your writing really sucks. If people read this, they’re going to be worse off for wasting their time.
You should really just accept that the work you want to be doing and the life you want to be living is an unattainable fantasy.
You’re not meant for bigness.
You’re going to end up broke and alone if you put yourself out there.
Nobody wants what you have. Also, you look like shit today.
It’s too late for you.
Yeesh! These are things I’d never say to anyone pursuing a dream of their own, even if I thought they sucked and I didn’t like them very much.
I kept thinking that before I could take any action toward coaching, this fearful voice had to be gone for good. What I’ve learned over the past 15 years of exploring these concepts and myself, is that we all have a voice like this and for the most part, at least for me, it doesn’t go away.
It also doesn’t have to run the show. So here I am years later, and I’m going for it. Thanks for being here. If you’re interested in learning more about personal expansion, I’ve shared some thoughts below. You can also contact me directly.
What do I mean by personal expansion?
In the simplest terms, personal expansion is the act of expanding your sense of self.
Exploring new interests, developing a skill or acquiring a new one, traveling and living in different cities, and pursuing intimate partnerships (this one is huge), are all ways people seek personal expansion.
These things are great and they will usually teach us something. But if these external actions aren’t taken from a place of true authenticity, they won’t bring us any sustainable fulfillment.
Real personal expansion is an inside job and it starts with identifying the beliefs we have about ourselves and what is and isn’t possible for us.
When we don’t expand from the inside out, we inevitably repeat the same unhelpful patterns, regardless of a new shiny job title, promising partnership, or where we are in the world. Why? Because wherever you go, there you are. We can’t escape ourselves, no matter how hard we try. The self that I’m referring to when I talk about expansion dwells far beyond your hobbies and skillset, and that’s where the expansion has to happen, that’s how deep we have to go. Otherwise, we find ourselves stuck in a life that feels constrained, and so much smaller than what we intuitively know we’re meant for.
Why do the work to expand from the inside out?
Because your outer world is a reflection of your inner world. And if your inner world is constrained by self-limiting beliefs and a scarcity mindset, that is if you think the world is withholding from you and there’s not enough to go around, then your outer world will reflect that.
Everyone has an inner world and it is usually shaped by our earliest life experiences.
Maybe money was always tight when you were a kid, you had an emotionally unavailable parent, or you were constantly minimizing your own feelings to make space for the people around you. Maybe someone cheated, or you learned early on that speaking up got you punished while staying quiet kept you safe. Whatever it was, it very likely had an impact on how you relate to yourself and respond to the world today.
Sometimes (often), we’re so stuck in our behaviors that we don’t even recognize them as inhibitors of joy or realize they’re keeping us from connecting with the most authentic versions of ourselves. We just have this sense that life has more to offer, without knowing how to access it.
This work is meant to help you uncover how some of that internal gunk shows up today, clear it out, and connect you more deeply with your authenticity so that you can start creating space for a life that is in alignment with the realest you.
In the most abbreviated sense, that’s what we’re doing here. If you have any questions or want to learn more, please reach out. I’d really love to hear from you. ✨
